# ModifySnapshotTier
<a name="API_ModifySnapshotTier"></a>

Archives an Amazon EBS snapshot. When you archive a snapshot, it is converted to a full snapshot that includes all of the blocks of data that were written to the volume at the time the snapshot was created, and moved from the standard tier to the archive tier. ## Request Parameters
<a name="API_ModifySnapshotTier_RequestParameters"></a>

The following parameters are for this specific action. For more information about required and optional parameters that are common to all actions, see [Common Query Parameters](CommonParameters.md).

 **DryRun**   
Checks whether you have the required permissions for the action, without actually making the request, and provides an error response. If you have the required permissions, the error response is `DryRunOperation`. Otherwise, it is `UnauthorizedOperation`.

Required: No

 **SnapshotId**   
The ID of the snapshot.  
Type: String  
Required: Yes

 **StorageTier**   
The name of the storage tier. You must specify `archive`.  
Type: String  
Valid Values: `archive`   
Required: No

## Response Elements

The following elements are returned by the service.

 **requestId**   
The ID of the request.  
Type: String

 **snapshotId**   
The ID of the snapshot.  
Type: String

 **tieringStartTime**   
The date and time when the archive process was started.  
Type: Timestamp
