# What is the code example library?
<a name="what-is-code-library"></a>

The code example library is a collection of code examples that show you how to use AWS software development kits (SDKs) with AWS.

The examples are organized by AWS service and by AWS SDK. The same examples can be found in each section.
+ **[Code examples by service](code_example_library_by_service.md) ** – A list of AWS services that contain examples of how to use each service with AWS SDKs. Use this section if you know which service you want to use.
+ **[Code examples by SDK](code_example_library_by_sdk.md) ** – A list of AWS SDKs that contain examples of how to use AWS services with each SDK. Use this section if you know which SDK you want to use.

Within each section, the examples are divided into the following categories:
+ *Basics* are code examples that show you how to perform the essential operations within a service.
+ *Actions* are code excerpts that show you how to call individual service functions.
+ *Scenarios* are code examples that show you how to accomplish specific tasks by calling multiple functions within a service or combined with other AWS services.
+ Additional example categories are defined for some services. These code examples show you something specialized about a service or integration.

All of the examples in this library can also be found in the [AWS Code Examples GitHub repository](https://github.com/awsdocs/aws-doc-sdk-examples). The GitHub repository also contains instructions on how to set up, run, and test the examples. 

## Using AWS services with an AWS SDK

AWS software development kits (SDKs) are available for many popular programming languages. Each SDK provides an API, code examples, and documentation that make it easier for developers to build applications in their preferred language.
