Release: Elastic Beanstalk Amazon Linux 2 platform updates on July 28, 2023

This release provides new versions for AWS Elastic Beanstalk platforms based on Amazon Linux 2. The release includes security updates. It also includes AMI, Docker, ECS based Docker, Go, Corretto, Tomcat, .NET Core, Node.js, PHP, Python, and Ruby updates.

Docker

Updated Amazon ECS Agent to version 1.73.1 on the ECS Amazon Linux 2 platform branch.

Introducing Docker Compose Version 2 on the Docker Amazon Linux 2 platform branch:   We have updated Docker Compose to version 2.20.2 from version 1.29.2. This release introduces a major version update to Docker Compose. For more information, see Announcing Compose V2 General Availability on the Docker website.

Important

Docker Compose v2 has a new feature called interpolation. If you'd like to use this feature, be aware that you'll need to implement an approach that uses platform hooks.

This is necessary due a mitigation that we implemented in the platform engine. This mitigation ensures backward compatibility for customers that aren't aware of the new interpolation feature and have existing applications that use environment variables with the $ character. For more information, see Using interpolate feature for environment variables (Docker Compose) in the AWS Elastic Beanstalk Developer Guide.
