# DeleteAddon
<a name="API_DeleteAddon"></a>

Deletes an Amazon EKS add-on.

When you remove an add-on, it's deleted from the cluster. You can always manually start an add-on on the cluster using the Kubernetes API.

## Request Syntax
<a name="API_DeleteAddon_RequestSyntax"></a>

```
DELETE /clusters/name/addons/addonName?preserve=preserve HTTP/1.1
```

## URI Request Parameters
<a name="API_DeleteAddon_RequestParameters"></a>

The request uses the following URI parameters.

 ** [addonName](#API_DeleteAddon_RequestSyntax) **   <a name="AmazonEKS-DeleteAddon-request-uri-addonName"></a>
The name of the add-on. The name must match one of the names returned by [https://docs.aws.amazon.com/eks/latest/APIReference/API_ListAddons.html](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/eks/latest/APIReference/API_ListAddons.html).
Required: Yes

 ** [name](#API_DeleteAddon_RequestSyntax) **   <a name="AmazonEKS-DeleteAddon-request-uri-clusterName"></a>
The name of your cluster.
Length Constraints: Minimum length of 1. Maximum length of 100.
Pattern: `^[0-9A-Za-z][A-Za-z0-9\-_]*`
Required: Yes

 ** [preserve](#API_DeleteAddon_RequestSyntax) **   <a name="AmazonEKS-DeleteAddon-request-uri-preserve"></a>
Specifying this option preserves the add-on software on your cluster but Amazon EKS stops managing any settings for the add-on. If an IAM account is associated with the add-on, it isn't removed.

## Request Body
<a name="API_DeleteAddon_RequestBody"></a>

The request does not have a request body.

## Response Elements
<a name="API_DeleteAddon_ResponseElements"></a>

If the action is successful, the service sends back an HTTP 200 response.

The following data is returned in JSON format by the service.

 ** [addon](#API_DeleteAddon_ResponseSyntax) **   <a name="AmazonEKS-DeleteAddon-response-addon"></a>
An Amazon EKS add-on. For more information, see [Amazon EKS add-ons](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/eks/latest/userguide/eks-add-ons.html) in the *Amazon EKS User Guide*.

## Examples
<a name="API_DeleteAddon_Examples"></a>

In the following example or examples, the Authorization header contents (`AUTHPARAMS`) must be replaced with an AWS Signature Version 4 signature. For more information about creating these signatures, see [Signature Version 4 Signing Process](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/general/latest/gr/signature-version-4.html) in the *Amazon EKS General Reference*.

You need to learn how to sign HTTP requests only if you intend to manually create them. When you use the [AWS Command Line Interface (AWS CLI)](http://aws.amazon.com/cli/) or one of the [AWS SDKs](http://aws.amazon.com/tools/) to make requests to AWS, these tools automatically sign the requests for you with the access key that you specify when you configure the tools. When you use these tools, you don't need to learn how to sign requests yourself.

### Example
<a name="API_DeleteAddon_Example_1"></a>

The following example deletes an add-on named `vpc-cni`.

#### Sample Request
<a name="API_DeleteAddon_Example_1_Request"></a>

```
Host: eks.us-west-2.amazonaws.com
Accept-Encoding: identity
User-Agent: aws-cli/1.16.298 Python/3.6.0 Windows/10 botocore/1.13.34
X-Amz-Date: 20201125T145907Z
Authorization: AUTHPARAMS
```

#### Sample Response
<a name="API_DeleteAddon_Example_1_Response"></a>

```
