# DeleteParameter

Delete a parameter from the system. After deleting a parameter, wait for at least 30 seconds to create a parameter with the same name.

The request accepts the following data in JSON format.

 ** [Name](#API_DeleteParameter_RequestSyntax) **   <a name="systemsmanager-DeleteParameter-request-Name"></a>
The name of the parameter to delete.  
You can't enter the Amazon Resource Name (ARN) for a parameter, only the parameter name itself.
Type: String  
Length Constraints: Minimum length of 1. Maximum length of 2048.  
Required: Yes

## Response Elements

If the action is successful, the service sends back an HTTP 200 response with an empty HTTP body.

 ** InternalServerError **   
An error occurred on the server side.  
HTTP Status Code: 500

 ** ParameterNotFound **   
The parameter couldn't be found. Verify the name and try again.  
For the `DeleteParameter` and `GetParameter` actions, if the specified parameter doesn't exist, the `ParameterNotFound` exception is *not* recorded in AWS CloudTrail event logs.
HTTP Status Code: 400
