## Release Summary
This release represents an update to the 8th quarterly release of AL2023. AL2023 is the next generation of Amazon Linux. It comes with five years of support and brings features such as deterministic updates and better optimizations for Graviton processors into Amazon Linux. AL2023 is ready for production workloads, and you can start migrating from previous versions of Amazon Linux today.
**Notable updates**
+ CUDA 13.0 does not have support for P3 instance family. If you are running workloads on P3 instances, ensure you use a compatible CUDA version that supports the Tesla V100 GPUs available in P3 instances.
+ NVIDIA removed the dependency for `nvidia-driver-cuda` from the `nvidia-driver` meta-package. Starting with CUDA 13.0, the version provided in this release, customers need to include `nvidia-driver-cuda` in their install scripts to get the same experience as before.

## Release Summary
This release represents an update to the 8th quarterly release of AL2023. AL2023 is the next generation of Amazon Linux. **Notable updates**
+ The `nodejs20-typescript-5.7.3-1.amzn2023.0.1` and `nodejs22-typescript-5.7.3-1.amzn2023.0.1` packages bring the TypeScript compiler as globally installed node modules to the Node.js 20 and 22 runtimes respectively. Both packages support simultaneous installation. The default name of the tsc executable uses the Node.js runtime selected with the `alternatives` tool. The current configuration can be viewed with the `"alternatives --display tsc"` command. However, the namespaced executables `(e.g., tsc-20 or tsc-22)` will always use the corresponding Node.js runtime and can be run independently of the current alternatives selection.
+ Following the mitigation of CVE-2025-23048 in `Apache httpd`, some websites may experience a "Misdirected Request" error, especially if a web server operates behind a load balancer. Currently, this issue is particularly noticeable with Application Load Balancers, which, at this time, do not relay SNI data to the target server. Apache httpd used to allow clients to send requests without setting a server name in the SNI because the check wasn't accurate. However, this behavior changed in version 2.4.64. There are several known solutions and/or workarounds depending on the load balancer and its configuration. For more information, see the [Apache bug tracker](https://bz.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=69743).
+ `haproxy` updated from `2.8.3 to 3.0.5 (LTS)`. Configuration remains broadly backward-compatible. Notable deltas in 3.0 include stricter HTTP/1 request-target parsing, a runtime API single-command requirement, rejection of the enabled keyword on dynamic servers, and the rename tune.ssl.oscp-update → tune.oscp-update. + Amazon Linux will stop evaluating and fixing CVEs for the redis6 package in Amazon Linux 2023 on `2026-01-31`. This is an extension from the previous [package support statement](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/linux/al2023/release-notes/support-info-by-support-statement.html#support-info-by-support-statement-eol_redis6) which stated that support for Redis 6 ends on `2025-08-31`. With the release of Redis 8, upstream security support for Redis 6.2 will be ending in 2025. + krb5: The KDC will not issue tickets with RC4 session keys unless explicitly configured using the new `allow_rc4` variable in `[libdefaults]`. This change resolves CVE-2025-3576.

## Release Summary
This release represents an update to the 8th quarterly release of AL2023. AL2023 is the next generation of Amazon Linux. It comes with five years of support and brings features such as deterministic updates and better optimizations for Graviton processors into Amazon Linux. AL2023 is ready for production workloads, and you can start migrating from previous versions of Amazon Linux today.
**Notable updates**
+ `espeak1.48.04` added. espeak is a compact, open-source software speech synthesizer that converts text into spoken voice for multiple languages.
+ `zeromq-4.3.5-1` added. ZeroMQ (also known as ØMQ, 0MQ, or zmq) is a high-performance asynchronous messaging library aimed at use in distributed or concurrent applications.
+ Javdoc sub package has been removed from `apache-commons-lang3-3.18.0` package in this release following fedora upstream.

**Warning**
Versions of Amazon Linux released on August 6, 2025 may experience soft lockup issues and instance launch failures when using `auditd`. Customers are recommended to avoid using the affected AMI versions or updating to the affected kernels while also running `auditd`. Amazon is working on providing an update that addresses this issue.
This issue affects AL2023 version 2023.8.20250804 with the following kernel versions:
`kernel-6.1.147-172.259.amzn2023`
`kernel6.12-6.12.40-63.107.amzn2023`
To check if your instance is running an affected kernel version, use the `uname -r` command.
### Solution and Mitigation
To downgrade to the previous version you can run these commands:
If your system is running kernel version `kernel-6.1.147-172.259.amzn2023`:
1. Install the previous kernel:
```
sudo dnf -y install kernel-6.1.144-170.251.amzn2023 --releasever=2023.8.20250721 && sudo dnf -y reinstall kernel-6.1.144-170.251.amzn2023
```
1. Reboot to the installed kernel:
```
sudo reboot
```
If your system is running kernel version `kernel6.12-6.12.40-63.107.amzn2023`:
1. Install the previous stable kernel:
```
sudo dnf -y install kernel6.12-6.12.37-61.105.amzn2023 --releasever=2023.8.20250721 && sudo dnf -y reinstall kernel6.12-6.12.37-61.105.amzn2023
```
1. Reboot to the installed kernel:
```
sudo reboot
```
The Amazon Linux team is actively working on this kernel issue and customers can expect the updated kernel in the week of August 11, 2025.

## Release Summary

AL2023 is ready for production workloads, and you can start migrating from previous versions of Amazon Linux today.
**Notable updates**
+ **kernel6.12 package renaming:** `kernel6.12` subpackages have been renamed and the RPM epoch for the 6.1 `kernel` and `kernel6.12` have been increased to 1. This has an effect on the update process for customers of the 6.12 kernel. Kernel subpackages need to be explicitly swapped to their corresponding 6.12 packages that now carry a different name which includes the major version `6.12`. Please refer to the [update documentation for kernel6.12](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/linux/al2023/ug/kernel-update.html).
**Note**
From now on customers that need the kernel development package for `kernel6.12` need to install `kernel6.12-devel`.

## Important Advisory Notice
The security advisories associated with the packages in this release are missing from the repository metadata and ALAS website. As a result, systems relying on repository metadata to track or apply security updates (ie: "dnf/yum update --security") will not be aware of the new updates available in this release. Systems leveraging the latest AMIs will have the latest updates.
We understand the importance of security visibility and compliance, and we are actively working to resolve this issue. A follow-up release that includes the repository metadata will be published during the week of July 28, 2025.

+ **Enhanced Graphical Desktop features:** AL2023 Desktop now includes comprehensive multi-language support, a complete multimedia stack featuring gstreamer framework and ShowTime player, and enhanced input support including on-screen keyboard. Additional improvements include USB Smart card device integration, standard desktop utilities such as PDF viewer and calculator applications, and monitor management capabilities.
