# Amazon Corretto as the default JVM

AL2023 ships with [Amazon Corretto](https://aws.amazon.com/corretto/) as the default (and only) Java Development Kit (JDK). All Java based packages in AL2023 are all built with Amazon Corretto 17. 

 If you are migrating from AL2, you can smoothly transition from the equivalent `OpenJDK` version on AL2 to Amazon Corretto.
