# Ad transcoding in AWS Elemental MediaTailor

AWS Elemental MediaTailor transcodes ads, bumpers, and slate to match the format and specifications of your origin video streams, ensuring seamless playback during ad breaks. MediaTailor supports two transcoding approaches: dynamic transcoding (the default) and a custom transcode profile. Understanding the differences between these approaches will help you determine the right configuration for your workflows.
