# Set message expiration and burn timers in the Wickr client

You can set the expiration and burn timers for direct messages with other Wickr users.

To set the expiration and burn timers for a direct message, complete the following steps.

1. Sign in to the Wickr client. For more information, see [Sign in to the Wickr client](getting-started.md#sign-in-step2).

1. In the navigation pane, find and select the name of the user who you want to set message expiration and burn timers for.

1. Select the information icon (![\[Information icon\]](http://docs.aws.amazon.com/wickr/latest/userguide/images/icon-wickr-user-information.png)) in the message window to view contact details.

1. In the **Contact Details** pane that appears, choose one of the following options:
   + **Expiration Timer** – Choose the dropdown to select an expiration timer for messages with the user.
   + **Burn-On-Read Timer** – Choose the dropdown to select a burn-on-read timer for messages with the user.
