Creates an Amazon Kendra index. Index creation is an asynchronous API. To determine if index creation has completed, check the Status
field returned from a call to DescribeIndex
. The Status
field is set to ACTIVE
when the index is ready to use.
Once the index is active, you can index your documents using the BatchPutDocument
API or using one of the supported data sources .

--edition
(string)
The Amazon Kendra edition to use for the index. Choose
DEVELOPER_EDITION
for indexes intended for development, testing, or proof of concept. UseENTERPRISE_EDITION
for production. Once you set the edition for an index, it can't be changed.The

parameter is optional. If you don't supply a value, the default isENTERPRISE_EDITION

--server-side-encryption-configuration
(structure)
The identifier of the KMS customer managed key (CMK) that's used to encrypt data indexed by Amazon Kendra. Amazon Kendra doesn't support asymmetric CMKs.
KmsKeyId -> (string)
The identifier of the KMS key. Amazon Kendra doesn't support asymmetric keys.

A description for the index.
--client-token
(string)
A token that you provide to identify the request to create an index. Multiple calls to theCreateIndex
API with the same client token will create only one index.
--tags
(list)
A list of key-value pairs that identify or categorize the index. You can also use tags to help control access to the index. Tag keys and values can consist of Unicode letters, digits, white space, and any of the following symbols: _ . : / = + - @.
(structure)
A list of key/value pairs that identify an index, FAQ, or data source. Tag keys and values can consist of Unicode letters, digits, white space, and any of the following symbols: _ . : / = + - @.
Key -> (string)
The key for the tag. Keys are not case sensitive and must be unique for the index, FAQ, or data source.Value -> (string)
The value associated with the tag. The value may be an empty string but it can't be null.

ATTRIBUTE_FILTERAll indexed content is searchable and displayable for all users. If you want to filter search results on user context, you can use the attribute filters of

.USER_TOKENEnables token-based user access control to filter search results on user context. All documents with no access control and all documents accessible to the user will be searchable and displayable.

--user-group-resolution-configuration

Gets users and groups from IAM Identity Center identity source. To configure this, see UserGroupResolutionConfiguration . This is useful for user context filtering, where search results are filtered based on the user or their group access to documents.
UserGroupResolutionMode -> (string)
The identity store provider (mode) you want to use to get users and groups. IAM Identity Center is currently the only available mode. Your users and groups must exist in an IAM Identity Center identity source in order to use this mode.

Performs service operation based on the JSON string provided. The JSON string follows the format provided by --generate-cli-skeleton
. If other arguments are provided on the command line, the CLI values will override the JSON-provided values. It is not possible to pass arbitrary binary values using a JSON-provided value as the string will be taken literally.
--generate-cli-skeleton
(string)
Prints a JSON skeleton to standard output without sending an API request. If provided with no value or the value input
, prints a sample input JSON that can be used as an argument for --cli-input-json
. If provided with the value output
, it validates the command inputs and returns a sample output JSON for that command.
--debug
(boolean)
Turn on debug logging.
--endpoint-url
(string)
Override command's default URL with the given URL.
--no-verify-ssl
(boolean)
By default, the AWS CLI uses SSL when communicating with AWS services. For each SSL connection, the AWS CLI will verify SSL certificates. This option overrides the default behavior of verifying SSL certificates.
--no-paginate
(boolean)
Disable automatic pagination. If automatic pagination is disabled, the AWS CLI will only make one call, for the first page of results.
--output
(string)
The formatting style for command output.
--query
(string)
A JMESPath query to use in filtering the response data.
--profile
(string)
Use a specific profile from your credential file.
--region
(string)
The region to use. Overrides config/env settings.
--version
(string)
Display the version of this tool.
--color
(string)
Turn on/off color output.
--no-sign-request
(boolean)
Do not sign requests. Credentials will not be loaded if this argument is provided.
--ca-bundle
(string)
The CA certificate bundle to use when verifying SSL certificates. Overrides config/env settings.
--cli-read-timeout
(int)
The maximum socket read time in seconds. If the value is set to 0, the socket read will be blocking and not timeout. The default value is 60 seconds.
--cli-connect-timeout
(int)
The maximum socket connect time in seconds. If the value is set to 0, the socket connect will be blocking and not timeout. The default value is 60 seconds.
To use the following examples, you must have the AWS CLI installed and configured. See the Getting started guide in the AWS CLI User Guide for more information.
Unless otherwise stated, all examples have unix-like quotation rules. These examples will need to be adapted to your terminal's quoting rules. See Using quotation marks with strings in the AWS CLI User Guide .
To create an Amazon Kendra index
The following create-index
creates and configures an Amazon Kendra index. You can use describe-index
to view the status of an index, and read any error messages if the status shows an index "FAILED" to completely create.

The identifier of the index. Use this identifier when you query an index, set up a data source, or index a document.
