# Spaces
<a name="spaces-desktop"></a>

Spaces are curated collections of documents and Amazon Quick resources that an agent uses as a source of information. On desktop you browse spaces, chat with them as context, and create new ones by navigating to **Spaces** in the left navigation or through chat.

## Browsing spaces

Search spaces by name, filter them (Favorites, Owned by me, and Created by me), and switch between Card and List views. Each space offers a quick action to start a chat with it, plus a per-space menu.

## Chatting with a space
<a name="spaces-chatting"></a>

Attach a space to a conversation to ground the responses from Quick in that shared context, for example project documentation, policies and procedures, or a team reference. You attach a space from the chat composer's data controls or from the All data and apps panel. To learn more about the chat boundary with spaces, see [Working with chat](working-with-chat-desktop.md).

## Creating and organizing spaces
<a name="spaces-creating"></a>

Choose **Create** to make a new space. Selecting a space opens it as a tab, so you keep chatting while viewing it. After you create a space, you can create a folder, upload files, upload a folder, or add assets (dashboards, knowledge bases, actions, or datasets).

Uploading your local files and folders makes them searchable in natural language. After your files are uploaded and reach a Ready status, you can query them in natural language.

**Note**
Adding documents to spaces consumes index cost. For details, see [Amazon Quick pricing](https://aws.amazon.com/quick/pricing/).
