AWS Mainframe Modernization availability change - AWS Mainframe Modernization

After careful consideration, we have made the decision to close new customer access to AWS Mainframe Modernization self-managed experience, effective June 30, 2026. Existing customers can continue to use the service as normal. AWS continues to invest in security and availability improvements for AWS Mainframe Modernization self-managed experience, but we do not plan to introduce new features. AWS Mainframe Modernization Service (Managed Runtime Environment experience) is no longer open to new customers. For capabilities similar to AWS Mainframe Modernization Service (Managed Runtime Environment experience) explore AWS Mainframe Modernization Service (Self-Managed Experience). AWS Mainframe Modernization availability change (self-managed experience)

AWS Mainframe Modernization self-managed experience will no longer be accepting new customers beginning on June 30, 2026. Existing customers can continue using the service with no disruption to their ongoing modernization projects. This availability change impacts the self-managed experience including:

  • Replatform with Rocket

  • Data Replication with Precisely

  • Replatform with NTT DATA

  • Assembler Conversion with mLogica

  • SPARC Virtualization with Stromasys

While we will not be adding new features to the service, we remain committed to providing security updates and maintaining service availability to ensure ongoing modernization projects continue to run smoothly. Our focus is on ensuring a stable environment for existing customers to complete their mainframe modernization initiatives while preparing for the transition to capabilities from vendor-direct offerings and from AWS Transform.

AWS Mainframe Modernization availability change (Managed Runtime Environment experience)

AWS Mainframe Modernization Service (Managed Runtime Environment experience) has stopped accepting new customers, while existing customers can continue using the service with no disruption to their ongoing modernization projects. This service provides both managed and self-managed versions of third-party software solution Rocket for replatforming. This service availability change impacts the Managed version only. New projects will be directed to the self-managed version.

While we will not be adding new features to the service, we remain committed to providing security updates and maintaining service availability to ensure ongoing modernization projects continue to run smoothly. Our focus is on ensuring a stable environment for existing customers to complete their mainframe modernization initiatives while preparing for the transition to the self-managed version.

AWS Mainframe Modernization Service (Self-Managed Experience) is our recommended solution that provides the same core functionality for mainframe modernization.

  1. What does this mean for the service (are you going to shut the service down?)? AWS Mainframe Modernization Service (Managed Runtime Environment experience) has stopped accepting new customers. The service will continue to operate for existing customers to complete their ongoing migration projects.

  2. How will existing customers be impacted? Existing customers will continue to receive full support, with AWS Proserve available to assist if they choose to transition to the self-managed runtime. Contact AWS Support for assistance.

  3. If an existing customer is having issues, how can they escalate? Existing managed service customers can continue to work with AWS Support to address concerns, and AWS teams will continue to support customers.

  4. What are the alternatives customers can explore? The self-managed version of AWS Mainframe Modernization Service provides runtime functionality for both Rocket Software (replatform) and AWS Transform for mainframe (refactor) capabilities.

  5. How can customers migrate off of AWS Mainframe Modernization Service (Managed Runtime Environment experience)? Customers using the managed runtime today will continue to be supported. To migrate existing environments, AWS ProServe can be enlisted to assist with the transition to using self-managed options.
