Data strategy roadmap - AWS Prescriptive Guidance

Data strategy roadmap

Based on the diagram in the previous section, you can select the stories to work on (marked as red and yellow), group them in enablement projects, and then build the roadmap needed to achieve your company's business goals. The following diagram shows this process.

Data strategy roadmap

This diagram shows only the enablement capabilities that are necessary to achieve the business outcomes. It excludes capabilities that are already in place or are not required.

For more precise prioritization, you should include the impact each business initiative has in terms of revenue, profitability, and effort associated with every project in the roadmap.

Data projects require a set of capabilities that are hard to find in a single functional area of the company. This is why data projects typically involve a multifunctional team that includes representatives from product, development, data engineering, data governance, security, business analysis, and data science teams.

Next steps

To start creating a data strategy, make sure that you have executive sponsorship and schedule business interviews with main (or all) business units within your company. After you create the data strategy roadmap, create a technical data architecture with the technical components you need for all enablement and business outcome projects. Work with your technical team to create the data architecture. Consider your current environment and the new components that your data strategy requires. To select technical components, your technical team should consider scale, security, data latency, and integration.
